Where do geeks come from?

chiller, I wish I'd spent more time with my ZX Spectrum and Atari ST back in the Eighties. I might have a better job now.
All the people I know who Know About Computers seem to have been inducted into some sort of secret society when they were about 12. There doesn't seem to be any other way of learning all this stuff - can one go to Geek School? It's a conspiracy, I say! Get the rest of us dependent on 'em then take over the world! :-)
Seriously, where can a person learn techie stuff? I wanna be a geek!
