Have just been looking at [livejournal.com profile] chiller's photos of her new kitchen here. It certainly beats mine hands down. Highlight of my weekend (apart from Doctor Who of course) was scrubbing out my kitchen sink, having finally cracked the other night and washed up the saucepan that had been sitting in it for 18 months - the mat of bacterial growth came off fairly easily, but the burnt-on curry was still stuck to the bottom!!!

Before that, of course, I had to sort out the four overflowing bin liners taking up most of the floor space, tie them up and cart them out to the bin shed. Then I gave the floor a sweep for the first time since Christmas 2003.

Then it was loads of Mr Muscle and plenty of elbow grease on the scrubbing brush, and I now have one very dirty T-shirt and one gleaming white sink and draining board (apart from a few marks which will now have to be considered stains) where before was naught but a blackened, foul-smelling mess! It now reflects light! As does the floor! The contrast is amazing, I keep walking in there just to go 'Ooh shiny!' Much less depressing than before.

Of course, the hob is still filthy, and there's still a pile of months-old washing-up to be done, but it's a start - and now I can at least fill the sink without setting off a germ warfare alert! Then there's just the mildew to be scraped off the bath and something to be done about the toilet (possibly involving concentrated sulphuric acid) and sweeping up the congealed talcum powder from the bathroom floor, and then I can think about sorting out the living room, study and bedroom - dust, sweep, throw out piles of old newspapers, sort out boxes of junk that have been lying around since I moved in two years ago, buy lampshades, armchairs and dining table set, hang pictures, wash sofa cover and oh yeah maybe launder my bed linen a bit more often...

Then of course it'll all just get dirty again. *sigh* I need a cleaner. *double sigh* I have no money.

Don't panic, people, I will not be posting pictures of my flat!
